3 Months Old

3 Months ago was an ordinary day. Three routine appointments to check on my boys. First one went well, second went well, but the third... My doctor took one look at me and sent me straight to the hospital. Angry. Upset. Tired. Begrudgingly I went. I told ER I was fine and the doctor was wrong. But he wasn’t.

My blood pressure hit an all time high 160/100. Other tests showed similar abnormalities. I was being admitted but wasn’t being induced if my blood pressure would drop. Two hours of trying to drop it, more tests, another ultrasound, injection for their lungs (just in case) and a few frantic calls — to my mom to her dogs and to Nick to hurry up to hospital but take your time because babies aren’t coming.

Then it all changed. My blood pressure wouldn’t drop, despite three medical attempts. And I’m told “They are coming tonight, when is the last time you ate? You’re next for ER.” Alone in a hospital ER room I cried. I wasn’t ready, I was alone (Nick had yet to arrive) and I was scared. I didn’t have diaper bag, I didn’t have hospital bag, I was hungry and tired.

When Nick arrived at 630, thinking he was just coming because I was being admitted for observation, he walked in smiling, put his bag down and I looked at him and said “they are coming tonight, we are next for ER.” His face was just as shocked as it was 6 months earlier when the ultrasound tech said “congrats it’s twins!”

It happened so fast. At 730 I was being wheeled into the OR. 6 nurses, 2 surgeons, 2 anesthesiologists — this was it.

It happened so quick! 807&808 I got to see them for a brief moment. I got to kiss Eli goodbye. Both boys were sent to NICU.

And in the blink of an eye my ordinary day became extraordinary.

Nothing beats being their mommy despite the screaming, crying, pooping and lack of sleep. They made our life complete.
