Getting The IUD?

Question

I’m planning on taking out my implant to get the iud. I’ve never been pregnant so I know I’m going to be cramping a lot. I’m also getting the copper iud without hormones because the hormones I have right now from the implant cause me to be really depressed. Any tips or advice or personal experiences, I’m a little nervous on getting it.

Full disclosure, I have had 2 kids. I tried Mirena, but couldn’t handle the hormones, do copper IUD is literally my last choice. For me it was great 2/3 out of the time, but when my period rolled around the bleeding was super intense for 2-3 days. As in, a super tampon + my Thinx period proof underwear + Nike shorts weren’t enough for overnight. That was rough with my anemia, but manageable. What wasn’t manageable were the cramps. I literally felt like I was in labor & could not stand. Everyone’s experience is different, but I kept mine for 6 months before switching to the FAM method.

Answer

Make sure you take painkillers before you have it done bc it can be reeeeally painful. Make sure you have a hot water bottle nearby and some snacky foods
