Painful nipples

I’m 18, sexually active and for about a week my nipples have been slightly swollen, inflamed, and they have been painful to touch. I’m on the pill so there isn’t a chance I’m pregnant but I’m not sure what could be causing the pain. Semi TMI but I have a feeling my boyfriend and I could just have been a bit too rough, but it has never been this bad before. Has anyone else experienced this or know what could be causing the pain?
