Monitoring while on clomid

From everything I’ve read on here and in other places, most women are monitored in some way while taking clomid. My doc has prescribed my second round to start in 2 days but I’ve not had a single ultrasound to looks eggs, follicles, or anything else. Using OPKs, I did get a solid smiley during the first round coupled with what I can only imagine is O pain. However I know nothing else. Does this strike anyone as odd? In your own experiences of course.
