How much weight can I expect to instantly lose after delivery? (By the time I leave the hospital)

I know this will vary from person to person, just looking to get a general idea on what clothes I can hope/expect to fit into afterwards.

They pump you full of fluid so you might not lose anything right away. Give it a week or two before you get on the scale and you'll probably have lost a good 10-15lbs. Best of luck!

the average weight of the placenta is about 1.5 pounds and the average weight of the amniotic fluid is 1.8 pounds, so those plus what baby ends up weighing.

they say to plan for around the same size as you were at about 5 months pregnant as the uterus wont be back down to normal size for several weeks still

Within the first day after my home birth I lost about 15 lbs and was back to normal size almost. But it totally depends on your body too. Mine was in over drive and thought it had to recover overnight (it was excruciating!!) but you'll have no idea how you could change so I'd say take something fairly loose, flowy and forgiving!

a bunch of people said they pump you full of fluids but that's not necessarily true. depending on how you deliver you may not be. I didn't want an IV so I got heplock (needle in my hand and taped down) and never received any fluids via IV.

I went home weighing only a few pounds less due to water retention. I took clothes that fit me right before birth. You want to be comfortable and probably won’t want anything tight. Within 2 weeks, I was finally down about 10 lbs. It was quite a few more weeks before the rest dropped off.

Maybe 10 but also could be nothing. The IV causes water weight and I couldn't even fit in the sweats I wore to the hospital cuz my body got so swollen

I am in AU's during my pregnancy I gain 4kg I lost 20kg after giving birth during that week after I have bub I lost all the weight I was still wearing clothes before I was pregnant that including Jeans anything I got a small bump and my baby weigh 7lb 2oz at birth

I’d say about 10lbs. 
Average weight of a baby (~7lb)) plus the placenta/amniotic fluid (~3lbs). They will also pump you full of fluids so you probably won’t loose as much as you think. 
It’ll take several weeks to shed most of the fluid/blood/tissue/etc. How quickly you loose the fat is dependent upon your body.
My biggest piece of advice is don’t weigh yourself at home. Wait until you’re at least 6 weeks PP.

One week postpartum I lost 12. Second week, I lost 7 more. Everyone is different though. I breastfed.
