What did you use during labor?

I really have my mind set on a natural birth at most IV medication.  I know that if I have to have a c-section medication is definitely going to be involved; but if I vaginally have my baby I don’t want any medication because I don’t plan on having anymore children. I really want to experience everything that comes with labor. I’m terrified of the thought of an epidural I’ve seen my mom and step mom get one.

I had my daughter all natural 2 years ago. It was a great experience n will do it again when we have another. My advice is to make sure the people With you know your desires as well. At one point I asked for some pain meds n my mom nicely reminded me of my hopes for delivery. Try n find thing u want to use to occupy your mind from the pain. I used a yoga ball and the hospital I was in Had a laboring tub. Also make sure you are In A facility that knows your plan as well and supports you!!

IV meds affect baby way more than a epidural. I hate giving it to my patients

Pain medicine through IV and epidural and neither worked. Progressed very fast due to it being my 4th baby.

My suggestion is to be very dead set on not getting medication of any kind. You need to support yourself mentally and have at least one loved one support you in your choice. I had my daughter naturally with out medication.  the only time it was reall hard was when I was waiting to finally go to the delivery room. It was hard because I could not move much. Moving helped the most and a birthing ball.

Good plan. My plan was also to go all natural. However I had to be induced. When the pitocin started kicking in, it got very unbearable. I wasn’t able to relax very well through contractions, which made me dilate very slow. I also had some earlier complications so I couldn’t get out of the bed much to move around. I would recommend being informed of the process anyways. I feel like because I had the epidural, I was able to avoid a c-section. I still felt the pressure of contractions but it was so much more bearable.

Also, IV meds made me super loopy. The epidural didn’t affect my mind at all. Just something to keep in mind.

I had diamorphine and I wish I hadn't, I was basically passing out between each contraction. The gas and air was definitely worth having though.

It’s great to have a plan. Just make sure you’re educated on medications and such. You never know what will happen during labor or how your body will take the pain. Be prepared that everything may not quite go as you’d like.
