Lying about racism: why?

Why do you think this server lied about experiencing racism? 
Do you think there is a connection to the abundance of people needing validation and attention via social media? Or do you think he did it with the intention of receiving monetary donations? Should he face any sort of consequence?

This is such a horrible thing to lie about. There are people experiencing racism daily with no action taken so for him to fabricate a story and receive money and public sympathy is disgusting.

Attention seeking. Negative and hateful news travels 10x faster than happiness on social media. Its all about the dopamine release of getting “likes”, shares, etc.

From what I read when it went viral last week the customers he blamed were also being ostracised in the community and several other establishments had banned them too, I'd imagine they've been the victims of a number of hateful acts in the last week. Stunts like this do nothing to help race relations at all.
I hope he's been fired and faces consequences for his actions.
