Makena Shot! Anyone have experience with this?

So my first pregnancy I delivered at 36 weeks on the dot. He was 7lbs 2.8 ounces and as healthy as can be. I didn’t have high blood pressure, or diabetes or anything. My water just broke and I dilated naturally and had a wonderful delivery. So now I’m due Jan 8 and I’m 16 weeks and my dr is concerned I’m at risk of delivering early again and he fears I wont get so lucky this go around and it might be sooner than 36 weeks. I’m supposed to start taking the progesterone shots at 18 weeks all the way up until 36 weeks. Has anyone had experience with this shot? What kind of side effects are you experiencing? Thank you for sharing!!!

My first was born at 32 weeks
At 16 weeks I started makena, the physical shot wasn’t bad. It made the injection site SO itchy to the point where I’d make myself bleed from scratching. I also would get golf ball-softball sizes hematomas. Honestly though, bigger picture, it was so worth it!

I had my son at 34 weeks so my doc insisted i do the injections with my daughter. I started them at 16 weeks til 36 weeks. Occasionally i would get a bad headache and sometimes the site would itch. no major side effects. I was already exhausted so i cant tell you if it made it worse or not. I delivered my daughter 3 months ago and 36 weeks and 3 days. I had my last injection on a thurs and delivered her at 12:54am on mon. lol
My home nurse was a long term L&D; nurse. She said if it itches really bad put some benadryl cream on the site and to not scratch it. She also said to rotate sites every other time. You can also take a benadryl if its too itchy. Hope this helps. You should do fine. I believe my daughter would have come earlier had I not agreed to get the injections.

I'm taking them I delivered at 34 weeks. no side effect really besides I was tired the next day the first few. I'm 25 almost 26 weeks no issue they dont hurt my man gives them to me

My son was healthy as can be but came early at 36 weeks like yours. I start my shots at 16 weeks next week and will continue until 36 weeks or I deliver. Same concern with my OB as well, that i am at a very high risk of an even earlier delivery. I’m nervous to start them but I know if will be worth the pain and itching.

I’ve been on them for about 5weeks now... & the only thing I’ve noticed is I’m very sentimental worse than I was before the shots !! & tired all the time. I had a gap from 14-16 weeks where I felt great ! & then started the shots LOL I went down hill, exhausted all the time. My arms have been sore mom stop, unless I rotate then I’m good for a whole week on one. But the soreness never goes away completely. 
Then again, not everyone is the same !!

I started the shots at 16 weeks, because of a previous 22 week loss. The shots hurt a little when you get them and you might be a little sore afterwards. Other than that, I haven’t had side effects. Very worth it!
