Has anyone found out the gender but then kept it a secret from family? I’m wondering how to keep it a secret.

My husband wants to find out the sex but I don’t really want to so I think this would be a happy medium and I’ve always wanted to call people and say “it’s a girl or it’s a boy!” We mentioned this idea to his mom and she was pretty mad about it but my mom thinks it’s an awesome idea and wants to be surprised! His mom’s reasoning is that she “just doesn’t know how she will be able to buy anything if she doesn’t know what it is” but I personally don’t want to be bombarded with gender specific things because we plan on having more than one baby and I’d like to reuse whatever we can!

Anyone have any advice?
