Can you choose to have a C-section?

Question

I really want another baby but I had a very long and traumatic labour with my first and I'm afraid of going into labour again. I know there will be more recovery time, and I'm not saying it's an easier way to have a baby, but I don't think I can do a vaginal birth again, pain relief didn't work before. I said I'd never have more children.
I think I can cope with surgery, my partner is amazing and will help me a lot while I recover. I don't know anyone that has a c section but I know it's common . What do you think?

You absolutely can. Two of my friends did for the same reason you want one. It wouldn't be good for you or for baby if you are terrified, stressed and struggling. They both had to discuss it in length with their obstetricians, and see if there is any way a natural birth could be made less traumatic. And I think one of them got told emergencies would take priority on the day. But you totally can.

around 25% of births now are by c section, most emergency. my friend was saying how disappointed that it hardly gets a mention in classes, and any mention is how to avoid it. I have heard of someone being "allowed" a c section when it's not necessarily a medical MUST, for instance if you're traumatized. it happened to my friend, they made her see some sort of therapist person, and after that if you're still adamant then I think they will approve it. That's just my account from one friend...

Speak to your midwife and ask to see a consultant about it.
I had to have an emergency c section and the recovery was hard but I’m opting for a planned c section this time.
