Polyamory?

Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but I figured I may get some good answers. 
Talk to me about being polyamorous. I’ve never necessarily thought about it for myself, but I’m sort of in the early stages of a thing with a guy who is polyamorous. Honestly, my biggest concern is safety/STDs. But, is there anything else I should take into consideration before letting it get too deep?

As far as safety always practice safe sex and get tested regularly. You can't give your partner rules on how to practice safer sex practices, but you can have you own boundaries and rules for you and your body.  
Other things you should know...  You will need to make sure you are ok with sharing time,  affection ect with another person. You may experience jealousy and that's ok... However its not your partner's job to fux your feelings of jealousy. That is souly up to you. 
Open communication anf honesty are your best friends.

Get ready to communicate. And I mean REALLY communicate. 
Like someone else suggested, I would advise reading The Ethical Slut and More Than Two (I think the latter actually has a website). 
Be ready to share time and potentially experience some jealousy. 
You are not required to know his partners (aka metamours). You do have the right to request to know who they are and potentially meet them, however, he has the right to refuse you as well. 
Be aware that he may practice hierarchical  polyamoury. He may have a "primary" partner to whom he devotes most of his time to. He may live with that person, marry that person, have children with them, etc. I would ask if he does practice this form of poly and, if he does, where you fall. This way you know just what you're going into. 
I would ask if he intends to form any kind of group—that is a triad (three people all involved), a quad (four people), etc., and if he wants you to be involved. Maybe he wants a unit. Maybe he wants multiple separate partners. 
Overall, this is something you really have to do research into. I'd ask him as well if he is willing to help you learn more about him and what he believes in terms of poly. If he's not willing to teach you, I'd take that as a red flag and ditch him. If he wants you to be a part of something, he should at least be willing to teach you/answer questions about it so that you may better understand and make a decision.
