Family will always be Family?

My sister and I havent spoken for over 3 years now. We have always had a rocky relationship and things hit the fan 3 years ago. Holidays have been divided like a divorced family. My brother and dad rather not see her but will if thay have to. What are your thoughts. Just because were family does that mean we have to see eachother or even speak?

You dont owe anybody anything. If uou dont want to speak to someone, dont. If uou dont want to see them, dont.

I don’t know the situation, and am sure when this happens people have their reasons... all I have to say is that I am very sorry for people who are estranged from any of their family.
If it is something petty I would hope people would try to move past it and try harder with family then they might with anyone else. If it is something very toxic then I imagine the distance is out of self preservation and better for everyone involved

you don't owe anything to anyone. family can be the most toxic people around you. my entire dad's side is now dead to me. I don't owe them anything. I've had them slate me and put me down from the days my mum and dad died. the one time I have enough of their put downs and lies I'm the monster. I've had my dad's sister who hasn't spoken to me in 3 years threaten that if I ever go near them again I'll regret it, that's not family. blood doesn't instantly mean that you're family either, the people I've had there for me aren't blood but they are my family. but this all started because of my dad's mother and I plan on never speaking to the evil witch ever again and as for the rest of them, like I said dead to me. nothing is going to change my mind on that one. cutting toxic people out regardless of them being family or not is okay. you get one short life, why waste it with toxins poisoning it?
