Bleeding for two weeks on birth control

I heard you could skip the last week of pills that give you your period and start on the new pack to skip your period. I tried this and i started bleeding anyway. I found out that it can happen sometimes so I thought it was normal. But now I’m on my second week of bleeding. Its really light though. I’ve also been late taking my pill a few times. Is this normal?? I’m 17 and currently on vacation so my mom knows I’m on my period, but I don’t know what to say if she notices ive been bleeding way longer than usual??
