i’m in a situation, and i don’t know if i should let my baby have her fathers last name or mine? which should i do and why

I think it depends on the man who is fathering the child. My husband and I had our first before we were married. I had no doubt he would always be in our child's life. Our child has had his name since birth. If you don't think that he will always be there I would either not give it or hyphen it.

The only way my child would have their father’s last name is if we were married and I shared that last name, too. If it’s just a co-parenting or dating situation, I think it only makes sense to give them the last name of someone who will 100% be around, which would be me, the mother. Obviously not all mothers are better parents, but I’m just talking about me personally, and for me, I can only be sure of my choices and actions.
