My kitten nearly died this morning 😭

This is Noble and he’s four months old. Let me start by saying he IS ok and he’s alive. I’m just so stressed out from earlier I need to vent a little 😭

This morning he had his rabies shot, which went perfectly fine. We love our vet and she did a fantastic job, she even clipped his nails for me, no charge, because I showed her the big scratch he gave me on my baby bump this morning. So when we were getting ready to leave, I clipped his harness to the little latch inside his carrier, like normal. We left.

He REALLY does not appreciate rides in the car.

So. About three blocks away from the vet, he started shrieking and flailing. I had a blanket covering the carrier so I just tried to talk to him for a moment and calm him down, but then he just stopped. No sound, no movement. I just felt something wasn’t right so I pulled over and unzipped the door. He wasn’t moving. I immediately grabbed him and when I went to take him out, I saw the strap was wrapped around his neck twice. As quickly as I could I got him untangled and hugged him close, gently massaging him, and he started breathing again. It was really ragged and hitched. His poor heart was beating ten miles a minute and he’d peed he was so scared. Still clutching him close I whipped the car around and drove like a madman back to the vet with my hazards on and barely threw it in park before I ran inside. The tears immediately started once I saw the surprised looking tech and blubbered the story, handing her my poor gasping kitten, and she listened and then ran in back with him. A random lady was watching and she actually came up and gave me a hug while I cried for a minute.

The vet we’d just seen, my favorite one there, took care of him. A few minutes later she came out to get me and said he was ok. He was walking around just fine, his breathing had slowed and smoothed, and he was alert and curious. We sat and talked and waited a little longer until he and I had both totally relaxed.

As scary as this was, I think Noble and I may have bonded a little today. He’s more a fan of my boyfriend- a total daddy’s boy. Momma is only here to feed him and take him to the vet. Dad plays with him, spends extra quality time with him, and lets him do whatever really. We’ve had plenty of chances to bond but just haven’t clicked. Since this morning he’s been following me around, letting me pet him, and he purrs like crazy when I pick him up.
