FTM L&D Experience

Jenny

Okay so I’m a bit late but I’m finally getting to type out my L&D; experience. On July 14th at 8am I went in for scheduled induction at 39wks&1day, we started Cervidil at 9am I was dilated to a 2 but still pretty thick so fast forward to 5pm I was having regular contractions but they weren’t painful until around 6:30pm they started picking up so the nurse came in and checked me and I was at a 3 and thin so they took Cervidil out, let me shower and started pitocin at 8pm, by 10pm I was at 4cm and they broke my water which made contractions way worse so I asked for the epidural at 11 (no it didn’t hurt like everyone says, it was just an odd sensation) and it only worked on one side, the nurse had said it has something to do with gravity?! So they kept flipping me also to help baby girl move down bc she was still pretty high. Fast forward to 2am (July 15th) nurses came in a checked me and said I was at 7cm and I asked if I was going to have to have a C-Section bc baby girl still hadn’t came down yet and they were still flipping me constantly and her heart rate would drop if I was laid a certain way but they kept telling me that they don’t think I will need one but it’s always a possibility. Fast forward to about 5:50am my Dr came in (thankfully) and checked me and said I was at 9cm (my fiancé said when he was checking me blood started gushing) my Dr then walks out of the room for literally 2 seconds and then the nurses are panicking and calling for help and putting me on oxygen (I was freaking out) he then comes back in with something in his hand and told one of the nurses “I think this is best” and she agreed and pulled my gown up and starts wiping my belly and at this point I’m looking for my fiancé around the room and asking the nurse what’s going on when I hear my Dr say “where’s dad?” and I look to my right and see him being handed a suit so I immediately knew I was going back for an emergency C-Section and I was balling my eyes out in fear of something being wrong with my baby so next thing I know I’m having something injected into my epidural IV and they start wheeling me out to the OR and tell my fiancé to stay put they will come get him when they get everything ready, then I get into the OR and they put me on the table and a nurse starts pinching me asking if I can feel it so I say yes and she asks if I feel the sharpness of the pinch or just the pressure so I tell her I feel the sharpness of every pinch so they give me something else in my epidural IV and then they put the blue curtain up in front of my face and my Dr comes in beside me and starts pinching me so I told him I could still feel the sharpness of the pinching and they put a mask over my face (I assume they gave me a gas to put me to sleep bc I was still feeling all of the pain) I was out in seconds, a nurse then goes to tell my fiancé they had to put me to sleep none of the pain meds where working so he wouldn’t be allowed back then he goes back to the L&D; room to wait and as soon as he gets there they call for dad so he takes off running down the halls throwing his things in the floor bc the suit they gave him to wear didn’t have pockets and at 6:08am on July 15th 2018 our Alice Layne was born and he obviously got to hold her before me so he took tons of pics for me to see when I woke up, they then woke me up at 7am and I was in and out so it’s more of a blur than the first half but the nurse woke me up and said “your fiancé is in here with you, your BP is up so I’m gonna have to give you something to bring it down then once it’s down we will take you to your room” so my fiancé is on my left side holding my hand and I’m asking him if him and Ali are okay then he shows me the pictures and tells me how beautiful she is and everything that had happened the whole time I was out and that she weighed 7lbs&4oz and was 19inches long and pure perfection! I later talked to my Dr about the C-Section, he said the complications were her heart rate dropping to the 90s and she was too big to come naturally that my body was just too small, that if I have a smaller baby next time I will be able to do a VBAC (I didn’t care that I had a C-Section I just wanted to know why) I’m sorry that this is so jumbled the whole thing is just a blur, I was a mess and I only know most of this bc my fiancé was telling it to me but I’m currently almost 1 month PP and I give props to any woman that can go through multiple C-Sections, they are PAINFUL!! Please excuse the way I look in these pics I hadn’t slept in days and her little sunglasses were for the light they had to put her under she was a little jaundice.
