Breastfeeding and pumping
I am a ftm and am still learning the best ways to breast feed. My baby girl is 8 days now and she takes a minute to latch still but is getting better each day. It's hard to latch at times because she is working out her arm and hand movements and they get in the way sometimes. She generally will feed 10-20 min each side every 2 to 4 hrs and poop about half way through almost each feeding. While feeding on one side the other side will start to leak.
Should I start pumping one side while she feeds on the other and just switch boobs on the next feed?
I tried pumping once after a rough night of cluster feeding and one very tired momma because nothing seem to soothe her. With that pumping I was able to get almost 2oz but from other ppl advice I've heard to wait to pump until around 4 to 6 weeks when she sleeps longer but my breasts will still feel full and start leaking on their own after 2-4 hrs.
I feel like I'm wasting milk while she's feeding on the other side but I still want there to be enough on both sides so she gets her fill and doesn't have to cluster feed as much. The past couple days she has been cluster feeding in the evening about 3-4 feeds between 6 and 10 before she is able to sleep for a few hours.
