How would you pronounce Eleanor?

I love the name and we agree on it but My SO says ner instead of nor. And I don’t know if I like that or maybe I’ve been saying it wrong my whole life.

It’s Elenor but as we’re English speakers the name will naturally suffer from Schwar during use. Phonetically that’s the upside down e. It’s the monkey ‘ugh’ sound that is most common in the British language, a cross between Elener and Elena!

I nearly always hear it NOR here in America for kids, and I believe the NER is a British pronunciation. I have heard it in the U.S. from much older people, especially those who have upper-crust accents. It’s funny bc it seems the pronunciation has changed since the last time the name was popular, as old people often say the NER and there are tons of grandmothers named Eleanor, and now we say NOR and there are tons of babies and toddlers named Eleanor.
