My birth stories - Babe #2
Babe #2:
12 months after having my first son, I was due with our second, we wasted not time lol.
Just like my firstborn my due date came and went.. what I didn't mention in my first birth story is that my husband is American and I am Canadian, we were still living apart and working on his papers at this point. So he had used his vacation for the week I was due to come and be there for the birth, however when that time was over I was terrified he was going to not be able to be there when I had the baby, so I requested to be induced on the one day I knew for sure he could be there. I went to bed the night before, woke up to my husband getting all our bags together and climbed into bed with me and our now 1 year old until it was time to head to the hospital.
Emotional leaving my oldest, I felt guilty and I didnt think I could possibly love another person as much as him. But away we went. We got checked in and they started me on the gel, laid there for the hour, then walked around for about an hour and a half and then I started having contractions, they were pretty uncomfortable as they were all in my back, the nurse had me lean over.on a ledge and try swaying to cope, that didnt do too much. I was determined not to have an epidural this time. So I went into the labour tub to try and cope through the contractions after about an hour of that i decided to get the epidural because it was just too much. I get back to my room and the anesthesiologist was very quick, and tried to be funny and made a joke right as he was putting the epidural in and said "I think this is what that YouTube video said to do" my husband started laughing but apparently i didnt find it funny at the time and my face just dropped. The epidural only froze the one side so I was still extremely uncomfortable, apparently I was given what was called a walking epidural so I was able to move so the nurse told me to try getting on all 4s and sway to try to shift the epidural. And of course this is the moment that the Dr decided to come in and check me... while I am on all 4s in a open back hospital gown swaying my butt right in his direction..
Mortifying... but it worked and I was much more comfortable. At this point I was 8 cm so the nurse said I should try and rest so I did for about an hour or so. she checked me again and said I was only 6 cm ??? Still confused about how the hell that happens but apparently my son moved back up a bit. So they started pitocin and it wasn't only about 2 hours until I felt I needed to go to the bathroom, the nurse checked me and was like oh that's because your baby's head is right there. I pushed for 5 min, Dr just got there in time and actually almost dropped my baby cause he popped right out and I remember him saying "woah slippery little bugger"
