Glucose test update - Keto/low carb

Here is an update on my glucose test results, in case it helps anyone in the community with similar issues!

I have been low carb for 10+ years, eating mostly paleo for the last 4 and switched to Keto in the last year. Great health, no issues. No issues getting pregnant and have been feeling fantastic throughout my pregnancy.

Was not enthusiastic about glucose test because I don’t eat any processed foods and my glucose intake is very limited. But I went for the test and was able to get a dye free, taste free glucose drink (called “Simply Pure”, which was just 100% glucose derived from corn. Great.

Well, I failed my first test. Doctor asked me to go for the 2 hour. Before my 2 hour I researched low carb failure rates on these tests and found it was common, especially if your body is not used to intaking glucose. I also read some tips from others (not medical advice) to hack the second test due to being low carb.

Prepared for the second test, here’s what I did:

- Carbed up for 24 hours prior to the test - for me this meant eating wayyy more carbs than I’m used to.

- walked for the 2 hours I was waiting for the clinic to draw blood (just paced sodium the waiting room), as I had read this helps with processing glucose in the system.

Just received results and no gestational diabetes! Now my traditional doctor will leave me alone about it and I can continue to thrive with my eating habits - my baby is doing great and developing in the normal range for my pregnancy.

Hope this helps anyone else who may be getting wonky test results for traditional medical tests because of their lifestyle choices.

Good luck 💙💙💙
