TTC for a long time

My period is now 8 days late!!! This has NEVER happened! I’m embarrassed to say how long I have been TTC , however, again THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED! My period is always on time! I was so excited I tested on day 6 and got a BFN!! So sad and heartbreaking! Could it still finally be happening?!? Any advice ladies?!?!
