How did you guys potty train your dog?

I’ve had my dog since she was 9 weeks (she’s 9 years old now). 
For the first year or so, I crated her whenever I was not able to keep an eye on her. Night time, when I wasn’t home, even if I was just showering. Every single time I put her in the crate or took her out of it, she went outside.
Before taking her out. I would make her sit in front of the front door. When she sat, she got a treat. This taught her that if she wants to go out, she needs to sit by the door. At 9yo she still does this today, and if I don’t see her she’ll come find me and yip at me until I follow her to the door. Then when we were outside and she did her business, she got another treat and TONS of praise. 
The key with potty training a dog is understanding that your success will be tied to how committed you are. If you aren’t looking out for cues from your dog, and aren’t committed to taking them out ALL the time, it’s not going to go well. If your dog has an accident, don’t punish them (they won’t understand that the punishment is tied to the accident). Just take them out immediately.

We have a lab (he is 1). I just took him out every 30 minutes and 10 minutes after he drank or ate anything. we paid close attention to him at first because if not he would pee on the floor. Also when ever I caught him peeing I would pop him and say no and take him outside. Also gave him a treat each time he potties outside. Took about 3-4 weeks.

I have 4 Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mixes and 1 husky. 
We trained by taking them out frequently (maybe twice an hour to once an hour) and used positive reinforcement. Once they understood, if there were any accidents, we did a light spank. All were trained quickly. The Aussie mixes have an issue peeing when excited though. It’s frustrating but we are working on it. If you stay on top of it, they are easy to train. Labs too, very smart. I had a golden that passed away and trained a neighbors lab.

We crate trained at night and gave treats when they went out. We took them out every 30 minutes when they were out of their crates and had them on an eating schedule. 15 minutes after they ate we’d take them out. It took like 6 weeks and a ton of patience but they finally figured it out.

What do you mean by keep her in the house potty trained?

With my shepherd/husky (we got him at a month old) we were keeping a close eye and bringing him outside to go to the bathroom. Then we'd reward him with treats or praise. If he made accidents in the house we let him know he can't do that then we'd clean it up and put this stuff on the area that would get rid of the smell. Now he knows if he has to go to the bathroom he stands by the door. We have a bell on the door too and he's actually hit it with his paw a few times to let us know he has to go out lol.
My friend has a tiny terrier/chihuahua puppy and they are pad training him. Sort of the same principle as going outside, every so often they'd just put him on the pad when they felt he'd have to go to the bathroom (with a leash on to guide him to stay on the pad). So far it's going good, the puppy rarely goes to the bathroom off the pad. May I also add the size of the dog would probably matter too. My shepherd/husky was way bigger when he was a puppy than my friends terrier/chihuahua puppy so my dog didn't have to go to the bathroom as often as my friends dog.

Positive reinforcement! It takes a while since their bladders are pretty small until about 6 months old. We follow a routine of taking her out on her leash (because puppies have no idea what you want from them if you put them on a tie it leash and leave them) and walk around our yard until she pee's or poops and reward her for each thing with a treat and lots of 'good girl!!'. She slept a kennel at night until we trusted her to wake us up. They say puppies can hold their bladders for how ever many hours as they are months old typically, so I find it to be true. Our pup is about 4 months old and she needs to pee about every 4 hours- a little sooner if she drinks a ton of water. As far as pooping, I find it's usually within 20 minutes of after she eats almost every time, and then once or twice in between her first and last meal of the day and again around bedtime pretty often. If I know she should have gone and she dodnt because she was too distracted or whatever when I have her out I bring her in and put her in her kennel for half an hour and then bring her out and try again.. that also seems to do the trick for whatever reason.
It's super frustrating the first week. We cleaned up quite a few accidents but I guess the idea is that if you give them crap catching them in the act they will only learn that they get in trouble if they are caught (dogs are very simple creatures in that sense)... but I trained my first dog by rubbing his nose in accidents and he turned out fine so I think it also depends on your dog 😅.
Anyways. So far we went from a few accidents a day to a few all week long, just using this positive reinforcement thing over the course of 3 weeks.. I think that's pretty good! Shes caught on to whining near the door or laying there quietly but you still really have to pay attention and keep consistent taking her out since her bladder is still probably fairly small. 
If your dog does have an accident, make sure that you buy a proper pet cleaner to clean it up because bleach enzymes and some other traditional cleaning product ingredients dont pull the urine enzyme out of the messed area properly so they will smell that spot and return to it next time they have an accident. That stuff can be found in the pet aisle in department stores, but pet stores carry the best stuff usually.
