38+1 painful contractions.

On Sunday I went in and was told I was in active early labor. I chose to go home so I could relax and get things to progress more quickly that way. Well, all night long I've been waking up with extremely painful contractions, but not as consistent as I know they should be. I've have two spontaneous births. One where my water broke and another where I had bloody show as my inidcators that I needed to go in. My question is if any other Momma's have gone through this. Did they eventually get closer together? I'm not exaggerating when I say this has been a all night affair and the pain from scale of 1-10 is definitely a 9 when they come.
