I’ve been with my partner for 2 years and on his birthday, our anniversary, Valentine’s Day, etc. I’ve gone out of my way to do something special for him and get him a gift EVERY TIME.

However, he’s not once gone out of his way to make me feel special, get me a gift or whatever... literally nothing. This year I thought he was going to surprise me for my birthday and act like we weren’t doing anything because he knows how disappointed I was last year and the year before about him not caring, but he actually had nothing planned nor got me anything. In the back of my head I tell myself “love isn’t about presents, it doesn’t matter blah blah” but I really feel like if I’m putting in effort and spending HUNDREDS of dollars on gifts, then I should be getting the same kind of respect back? It’s a bit sad seeing my family on my birthday and they’re like “what did he get you?” and I have to say nothing.
