When to announce

Question

When did you tell family and friends? What about everyone else? And when & how did you tell you boss???

We told our parents and my siblings within the week.  I called me mom right after telling my husband.  
We told the rest of our family and closer friends after our 8week scan so we would have ultrasound pictures to announce with. 
I slowly told people that I saw everyday (like at work) because they noticed I was ‘off’.  
I told my boss at about 6 weeks because I’m a teacher and I needed her to know so when I left my classroom to deal with morning sickness or was always sitting down when she walked in, that I wasn’t being irresponsible.  I also wanted her to know in case something bad happened, so she would understand me needing time off.

I’m 11 weeks. Who we have told:
One of my coworkers who could advise me on dangerous stuff at work and help me (I’m a neuropharmacologist in a physiology lab).
My husband told a few people he works with who live in other cities. 
My in-laws. 
A friend from HS (who I’m not super close to), who will be my maternal care nurse after delivery. 
That’s it!

With my first, we told our families about 6 weeks. My husband's grandmother was on her death bed so we gave her her dying wish knowing we were starting a family. We told the rest of our friends at 12 weeks at our annual New Year's get together. I had to tell my boss at 10 weeks because I was going to get a violent client and I couldn't be hands on. 
Second baby, mind you my kids are only 14.5 months apart, we told our families early because I needed the support annndddd didn't get it from them. Friends were told at 11 weeks because I was showing. I was the boss at this point 😂 and some of my staff figured it out about 6 weeks when I was carrying around gatorade again (helped with the nausea for me) 😂 but had to tell the CEO, again due to a new violent client, at 8 weeks. 
Pregnancy #3, something told me not to tell anyone. We ended up not telling anyone, and my family found out when I miscarried at 6.5 weeks. 
Pregnancy #4 was a chemical never told anyone. 
Pregnancy #5 - currently 6.5 weeks and my in laws, best friend and a close friend who is also due the same day as I am know. I'm not really sure when we will announce but my boss knows. I moved back to the family business so my mother in law is technically my boss 😂

I told my parents and in laws the day we found out. My in laws are my employers so that was like a two birds one stone thing. But we’re waiting to tell our siblings until I’m about 10 weeks. After my first ultrasound and then we’ll probably announce it on social media and tell everyone else when we find out the gender. That part is still up in the air though. 
But, main part is, do it when you and you’re SO are ready and comfortable to tell. 
Also, if you’re you’re really sick, maybe tell your boss a little sooner? Just so they know why you’re running to the bathroom so often or whatever you have to do. If not, then not a huge deal.

I told probably 2 friends at 12 weeks aswell as my parents but then everyone else including siblings at 20 weeks to be sure nothing was wrong (I lost a baby at 20 weeks already so that’s why I waited so long) 
but told my boss as early as 8 weeks because I have severe nausea. I just came straight out with it and I was congratulated. 
It’s really up to you and your partner when you want to tell. Most people do it around 12 weeks but if you want to wait till you know gender or just to be 100% certain baby’s fully ok I’d wait till 20 weeks but again entirely up to you guys.
