When to transition baby into crib

Question

My sweet baby is 8 weeks old. I have her sleeping in a bassinet beside our bed, but in turn am getting little to no sleep at night. I wake up to every little sound or movement she makes. Anytime I place her in the crib, it is very hard to soothe her and calm her. Any tips for transitioning her into the crib? Thanks in advance! Sincerely, one tired momma.

We transitioned my son around 5 months. When he outgrew the rock n play we transitioned him to the pack n play.. and that was around the time he was starting to roll so I still wanted him near me at nights while he figured that out. But I would do every single nap in his crib. I think this got him used to it while he was still next to me at nights. Once he had the rolling down (and became a tummy sleeper) we transitioned him to his crib and it’s been great ever since! I would highly recommend starting with naps and getting your LO used to the crib that way.

I wanted to transition my baby boy to his crib at 4 months old, but the pediatrician pointed me to the guidelines for safe sleep: a minimum of 6 months in the same room and ideally 1 year. Don't think I'll do the full year, but my hubby and I decided to go with the recommended minimum.

Put your robe or shirt in it before baby so it smells like you.

My twins sleep in full size cribs are n our room at ten months. So it’s not much different. I transitioned them when they were clearly outgrowing the smaller beds. 
I put them in their new cribs for naps during the day until they were used to them and then overnight. (My bedroom is very large for a bedroom.)
Try not soothing her as much. She may go back to sleep if you just touch her once or him a little. I also let my babies fall asleep in my bed and then put them in theirs if they’re having trouble calming down. Being against mom usually helps.

I have been told that if you’re switching them to a crib in a new room, to either put the crib in your room first, then the new room, or put the bassinet in the new room, then switch to the crib. Basically, don’t switch to crib + new room all at once. But, I think every baby has different sensitivity to changes of that sort!

They actually recommend keeping them in your room for 6 months now. Dd is a few weeks away and I’m dreading it. She’s growing up too fast 😭.

Get those really soft crib sheets. Chenille, minky, or plush. My baby sleeps so much longer and better on those. My mom never had any of us sleep in her room and raised 4 kids.

You can try putting her to nap in her new room during the day and maybe it will make the transition to her room at night easier? That way she’s familiar with it and maybe not as fussy. Good luck
