Has anyone with GD refused induction?

Hey guys, 
I'm just wondering whether anyone with gestational diabetes has said no to being induced? 
I had a growth scan last week and babes is measuring 2 weeks ahead, approx 6lbs/3kgs so the doc has said he wants to induce me at 38 weeks. I really want to avoid this if possible as I was planning on no drugs during birth... obviously if baby is in danger then I'm happy to go ahead, but I just don't think that I should be induced just because baby is a little larger than some. I know people who have given birth to 10-12lbs babies who are perfectly healthy/had no birthing issues. 
I am having another growth scan at 36 weeks and probably one at 38 to see how the baby is tracking.
Side note - I barely failed the glucose test and only have issues with my fasting numbers, I'm taking metformin but it's not really doing anything so the doc said if it doesn't start lowering my fasting numbers he possibly wants to start me on insulin. 
*UPDATE* 36 weeks now and baby is approx 7.7lbs/3.5kg. My placenta, fluid level and cord blood flow are still perfect. The midwives say I can refuse to be induced if I want to, but it's probably wise to not go over 40 weeks, which I am kind of ok with. I've chatted to the Obstetrician and he is happy to assess the size again at 38 weeks and do a stretch and sweep a couple of times at 38-39 weeks to see if that starts anything. I'm really not wanting to be on the drip, and I've made that pretty clear.
Also we've just upped my dose of Metformin to see if it does anything, seeing as I've only got slightly elevated fasting levels and the rest are perfect.
*UPDATE* 38 weeks and 1cm dilated so if nothing happens by Monday they are going to break my water. I'm not thrilled, but definitely an ok result. I'm still pushing for no drugs, fingers crossed!

I had GD, barely failed the glucose test and was diet controlled, my numbers were high maybe 6 times my whole pregnancy and they were still going to induce me between 39 and 40 weeks.
I went into labour at 38+1 on my own. When I delivered the OB and nurse said my placenta looked like that of someone who went to 40w. This is likely why my body went into labour.
Babys size is not the only issue with GD, it also affects the placenta and can cause it to basically stop working the way it is supposed to. I imagine this would have happened had I gone all the way to 40w and I wasn’t even medicated for my GD.
I’m not telling you what to do of course but there are possible issues other than just size and I would trust the opinion of your doctor.

Yes but I was only induced at 39+2 because my water was slowly leaking and I went to doctor to get it checked out. My doctor didn’t mention induction the entire time prior to my 39 week visit, until that day. I did not take medication for GD, was able to control it through diet.

I also had GD before and have it again. During my last pregnancy my son was born naturally with 38 weeks. He wasn’t big at all but the placenta wasn’t working properly. Apparently it looked like the placenta of a severe smoker. They wanted to induce at 39 weeks. In this pregnancy (insulin GD) my baby is now 2.6 kilogram at 36 weeks so that is great. But next week they are going to check how the placenta looks. If everything is fine I don’t want to be induced..

I refused induction with my third child. My first I was diagnosed with GD and was told I needed to be induced at 39 weeks because my daughter was measuring at only 5lbs and was failing to thrive. That was a load of bullshit and she came out at 7lbs8oz healthy as they come.
My second baby I was induced with because they said she was measuring at almost 10lbs and again, she was born at 8lbs 3oz and totally healthy.
Inductions are mainly done so the doctor has a nice clear schedule.
My third pregnancy I went 9 days overdue, went into labor naturally (so much easier than an induced labor!) baby was born vaginally and she came out at 9lbs 10oz, again totally healthy. 
Unless it was a live or die situation I would never be induced again. My induced labors lasted over 24 hours each, were disgustingly painful, and I was treated like a slab of meat.
I switched clinics and went to a midwife based center, (overseen by OBs in case of a high risk mama) and I was given freedom, and my thoughts and opinions are respected. I pushed out 9lbs 10z, didn’t tear, and my labor from start to finish was 4 hours.

With my first I was induced at 36 weeks but didn’t have GD, I had cholostasis and my son was born at 37 weeks at 3.8kgs
Now with my second pregnancy I have GD and I just had my growth scan last week on Friday and I’m 36 week currently and her estimated weight is 3.25kgs. I have a hospital appointment later this afternoon so I’m wanting to see what they say today

They want to usually have the baby early due to the placenta breaking down earlier than that of a non GD pregnancy. I thought it was baby size too but was told last appointment that they worry about the placenta.

Its not just the size of the baby. Gestational diabetes can make the shoulders/abdomen large which can cause them to get stuck. I had gd my last pregnancy,  had a csection for many reasons but this was a concern of my doctors when he thought I could deliver naturally

I have GD with insulin. My doc wants me induced between 39 and 40 but has agreed to let me schedule my induction for 40 weeks and 2 days since everything looks good so far. I'm hoping that gives me time to go natural! However, if anything changes for the worse, I will be induced earlier.

I was induced at 40 weeks. Never mentioned before my last apt. My baby was not a big baby but I read with Gestational Diabetes your placenta starts to die early so waiting sometimes is not a good thing.
