Positive Herpes 2 Test

So I’ve been checked before and have never been told that I tested positive for any Herpes 1 or 2.

Recently tested positive for Herpes 2 but I have never had an outbreak and the doctor says it shows that I have been exposed for sometime at least in the six months.

With me having one partner and previous testing is it safe to say that I received it from my partner or could he or I have had this dormant for years and not know whom or when I was exposed?

The doctor also says that I couldn’t pass it on without an outbreak? And that I can’t pass it on orally through saliva

Please help bc I’m new to this Herpes 2 thing and least of all I don’t want the stress to trigger anything
