Need positive flu shot stories!

I have this awful fear of the flu shot. Not actually getting the shot, just a fear of what will happen afterward. Years ago my mom got really sick after hers (was probably a complete fluke) but it's stuck with me and kept me from getting them.

Well, last year I got the flu for the first time in my life and it was the worst I've ever felt physically! Now I am terrified of getting it again (especially being pregnant) and would like to avoid it, if possible. So here I am! Please tell me your experiences with it. Did you have symptoms afterward? Did it keep you from getting the flu? TIA!
