Castor oil??

Question

So I’ve always thought castor oil was bad to use. I’d still never use it but out of curiosity I asked my doctor and she said “it is a laxative for you, not your baby, so no it won’t hurt her.” I mean it’s not worth the risk but why would she say this?

My mum took castor oil, but that was back in 1990 and even then it although it wasn’t as known as it is now it wasn’t recommended.
As far as I know it can cause baby distress and cause them to swallow meconium (or however it’s spelt 🙈) maybe I’m wrong though and I’m getting it mixed up with something else 🤔

Yes it’s dangerous. I took it because I was 1 week overdue and my midwife suggested it. It made both me and my baby poop. She pooped in the womb and luckily didn’t choke on it but some can and it is a medical emergency. I would not take it again to risk it, it is very strong. I had 2 tablespoons over the course of 3 hours.
