If it is a routine thing, yes they should charge. They are continuously giving up their time. If it's rarely or every once in awhile so the mom and dad can got for a date night by themselves, then I don't think compensation is really required for that.

I feel like family is family. Everyone should do things for each other out of love instead of always expecting money. I feel like the only time money should be a factor is if they are giving up paying work in order to watch your child.

I think it’s wrong especially if they agreed to do it with out being paid at first, but personally I would given them extra cash or buying groceries or helping them out some kind of way.

If it's so you can work etc... yeah they should get paid. 
Unless it's a once and awhile thing.. most definitely. Just because you had kids doesnt mean that have to give up a lot of time to watch them. Random date nights or kid is sick so cant do school/sitters.... that's okay. 
But yeah if its multiple times a week for any extended period of time.. most certainly they deserve something for it.

I think it really depends on the situation. If they are coming to babysit once a month, I would say no need to pay them. If this is an everyday thing, you should have an open conversation about their expectations and bring up compensation. If they are driving really far to babysit gas money could be discussed. Again, I think this all depends on their level of income and what they are sacrificing to babysit. Open dialogue is the best!

Absolutely not. Most older people are living on a very fixed income. If you took your kids to daycare it would be over 1000 per month for full time. Even using Care.com is super expensive and you have to pay upfront. 
I pay my family 10.00 per hour for one child when they occasionally watch my kids. If they’re sick or daycare is closed and I still have to work.

Nope. They are providing you a service. It would be different if it was just a date night,  although I would still compensate them.
