Yes!!! It’s your birth not theirs. My mil is so pushy and disrespectful I know she would just show up if I told her. When I get pregnant and give birth (at home) nobody will know until I say so  perhaps even days later

Your baby your body your choice! I told family I was laboring but was very strict on not having them in the room. I love my family but they can be overbearing and I already had high blood pressure so I didn’t need the extra stress. They called my nurse all through the night because I turned my phone off. And showed up to the hospital at 4am. I was very strict on they had to stay in the waiting room. I delivered at 6am and they weren’t allowed back until after 9. They were mad but I didn’t care.

You should do what you are comfortable with. My mother did have a good point though. Birth can quickly turn into surgery. I’d want my parents to know I was having surgery so they can pray and be prepared in case of an emergency. I’m telling my mom when I go into labor not necessarily because she wants to know details about the new baby, but because I’m her baby and she wants to stay up to date on my health.

Never told my in laws cause they are crazy. Told my BF he wasn’t allowed to tell because she stresses me out and I was afraid she’d take the 5 hour drive to be there.

This has been my plan all along (due next month) and recently my mom was all “I’ll be in that waiting room as long as it takes, anything you need.” And we only recently got close over the past year (she wasn’t around for my childhood/school years or even after really until my dad passed. I still may not tell anyone until baby is here. My husband is fine with that too. It’s frustrating how pushy people get.
