When husband feeds the baby

Question

My husband gives the baby her first night feeding. I’ve been waking up to pump but it defeats the purpose. Today I didn’t wake up but now I’m engorged AND she’ll probably be hungry soon. Do I pump or do I wait for her to wake up and nurse? How Do you guys deal with situations like this? It’s been about 5 hours since I nursed. I’m also now worried about my supply.

You can express some. If you are really engorged then she may have issues latching on. I would not do a whole pumping session though, just maybe enough to relieve the pressure.

Your supply takes 8-12 weeks to become well established. 
I pumped overnight for the first 2-3 months. After that, I slept when baby slept.

I have never pumped at night before. But for most women skipping one session is just uncomfortable, not very likely for you to lose your supply! Good luck, I can't imagine pumping all night!

I started letting my husband do the first feeding of the day instead of the middle of the night one. I could still get some extra sleep if i slept in, but then it took a lot of the guess work out of when to pump/when baby would be ready to eat again.

I would pump after she feeds next. That way she gets her fill, and you can catch up with the bottle she was given.

I don’t pump overnight for 10-12 hours, and I don’t have a supply issue. It’s all about what your body is used to and the consistency of your routine.
