Dying my virgin hair?!?

I’m 20, never done anything to my hair before besides cut and trim it. I have dark brown hair and I want to dye it bright red. My friends told me bleaching it, is most likely gonna mess it up?

My hair is bright bright red. I do it myself and don’t have to bleach it, I use a dye that is made for dark hair only so no pre bleaching needed. 
This is my hair currently. Has been this bright red for almost 2 yrs now.

You’re going to have to bleach it to get the bright red color which does indeed harm your hair. Maybe going for a deeper red will make it so you don’t have to bleach it as much?

You don’t need to bleach it to get t that red. Go to a actual hair beauty store and they have hair color that’ll cover your dark hair and make it really red. I found that out after many times of bleaching my hair 🙄 my hair is thin asf now. Don’t bleach.. not worth it

virgin hair will lift very easily. i recommend going to a reputable salon for the initial job. then touch up your roots at home *if you don’t have the money to continue going back to the salon*. yes over time your hair will be damaged, you just have to be smart about taking breaks between dyes, regular trims, and keeping your hair conditioned. i also waited until i was 20 to dye my hair for the very first time and i was in love with it.

honestly I wouldn't do it but that's just me because I had people in salons screw up my hair twice , 2 diff people. and it's taking me forever to grow all the damage out. I wish I stayed natural but I've been changing my hair since like 2nd grade my sister lightened it and in 6th grade I dyed it black and I've been changing it every since

Yours is going to pull very quickly so the bleach won’t have to be on very long to damage it,  to get to the blonde you need!
