What to do?

Me and my boyfriend are going away to california and our money is together, we leave october 8, and my birthday is october 4. We need to save every penny possible & he wants to get something for my birthday but I keep saying i’ll go with him and pick out something small because going away with him is more than enough and it’s my 21st birthday. Advice? If you were going away with your bf few days after your birthday would you expect a gift? Especially if he was putting most his money towards the trip?

Honestly I would consider the trip itself as a birthday present and call it a day. However you cant really stop him from doing something on his own like that. Just do your best to communicate to him that you dont want him to overextend himself

I would not expect a gift. My boyfriend and I have gone away for our birthdays a few times and we’ve usually gotten each other something small, but if you guys want to save then I would let him know that you don’t want anything.

Tell him you'd rather him treat you to something a little extra special while on your trip than get a gift before. Or that he can just get you some flowers and make you a nice dinner or something. Just stress to him that a gift is not important and you'd rather save it for the trip.
