Trouble finding baby with abdominal ultrasound??

Hi ladies! I’m 5’10 and about 250. I’m 11 weeks today and have had 2 ultrasounds so far, both vaginal. I wanted to know if any of my other Plus size beauties had a difficult time getting a reading from an abdominal ultrasound after the first trimester? Im nervous about not being able to see baby because of my extra fluff, and my mom wants to take me to an early screening at 16 weeks for gender and I don’t want to be embarrassed! *Please include your weight with your responses if you’re ok with that. I’m 5’7 and was 240 when i found out I was pregnant (lost about 10lbs now) but I had an abdominal ultrasound at 9 weeks and they saw baby just fine. So I imagine at even further along for you, 16 weeks, they’ll have no problem seeing baby

I used to do the ultrasounds, as in I was the one scanning.  As baby gets older and the bones get more calcium in them, they show up better. I did ultrasounds at 16 wks on women much fluffier than you and they turned out just fine. Don’t worry!  They’ll have to push harder and the pics may not look HD, but they should be able to get decent pics if they take the time to adjust settings and do things right. Congratulations and enjoy!!

I’m 5’11 and was 270 at the start, now 27 weeks. Have had no issues once they started doing abdominal ultrasounds.

I had two transvaginal's until I was officially 12 weeks and at that point it was no problem. I think you'll be just fine.

I didn’t get good abdominal ultrasounds till I went in for my 20 week anatomy scan and even then we ended up doing a vaginal ultrasound because baby was being stubborn

Im 5”4 271 🤦🏽‍♀️ but at 12 they got an abdominal us, but they had to press pretty hard to get it, but its done lol

They may have to push harder and may want a full bladder. They can use the full bladder as a window that magnifies baby. It's usually done only in early pregnancy but if needed can help into the 2nd trimester after that it can actually make it more difficult to see as the baby has bc so large. I say try, worse case they can't tell the gender and give u another scan a little further down the road. The other option is wait until 18 weeks for baby to get a little bigger. Try not to dwell on it and enjoy this time.

I was 250 pre-pregnancy and no issues with the anatomy scan other than baby being too squirmy and having her legs crossed.

My first ultrasound at 10 weeks was vaginal.   My second ultrasound at 13 weeks was abdominal. I think a lot of it has to do with the equipment. I started my pregnancy at 261.

I'm 5'11 and 272lbs.  I never had an issue with them finding baby on an abdominal ultrasound.
I didn't even know that could be a thing!
