What do contractions feel like?

I'm 37w4d and 1cm dilated. I haven't had any noticable contractions, but my doctor said that I wouldn't be dilated if I wasn't having them. Today, for the first time, I've been feeling my baby move deep in m pelvis and then my stomach gets really hard and tight. It doesn't hurt, and it doesn't feel like cramping. It feels a little like my baby is just turning around but my whole belly is hard... What is this?

These are Braxton Hicks likely which is normal and your uterus sort of prepping itself! So exciting. Real contractions you can time and will increase in intensity

That definitely sounds like Braxton Hicks. My contractions always feel like period cramps and I’ve never had the full belly tightening going on but the cramping always made me dilate. If your baby is head down you could be dilating because of the pressure of the head on your cervix and not necessarily because you’re contracting or you could be feeling contractions and you’re just not feeling any pain because of them yet. Hard to say but good luck!
