Name Traditions 👶🏼 ??

Question

Posted this a few days ago and barley got a response. 
What name traditions do you think of or are in your family or  have you done your self and how do they go? 
How many generations did it go on? 
Why did it start or why did you start it? I’m just curious about all the name traditions out there..

My middle name is Jean and it goes back 5 generations. 
For boys we take the grandparents name for middle names. Usually the same for girls but me my mom and grandmother are exceptions since we are all Jean. 
If I have a girl technically she should have my mom's name as a middle name but I've decided to keep Jean going.

My SOs family first son is named after there dad. So middle name is dads name. Also They girls don’t have a middle name and it’s ____anne like his mom is Julieanne sister is Melissanne, Neice is shianne, aunt Roxanne grandma joycanne etc. our tradition all kids have 5 letters in the first name

Husband's family does the southern thing where the first name is biblical and the middle is a family name. Basically it's been that way for a long time so most all family names are biblical. We decided if we have a boy he will have my MILs grandfathers exact name and if it's a girl she will have my grandma's first name and his mom and grandma's name as her middle name.

As a child I didn’t like it because I wanted something unique. Now I feel it’s a compliment to be named after my mom. I doubt I’ll continue it however.

Our daughter is Edyth Grace after my husband and my great grandmas but in his family the middle name grace has been given to many of the girls! We will name all of our kids names that start with vowels so i guess idk if that’d be a tradition or pattern?

My middle name is Evone, after my grandmother. I am the 4th generation with the name, but I will not be continuing it with my daughter.

My grandpa on my dad's side is named Daniel David, and my dad is David Alan. My mom's name is Sandra Gayle, but her parents just liked the name. My parents made my middle name "Dee" after my mom's foster mom, who I thought of as my grandma for a very long time and thought saw me as a granddaughter but now I'm not too sure the older i get. That's besides the point though. My first name is after a soap opera character from a show my mom used to watch. Lol. My brothers first name is after a guy that was my dads best friend at the time. I dont think my husband was named after anyone in particular. But our son's middle name is after his grandpa on his mom's side, and our daughter who is due soon's middle name will be after my grandma on my dad's side... so there is kinda the tradition of including someone important to you in your childs name, yet not totally. My other two biological sisters weren't named after anyone in particular, and neither were my adopted sisters (the mom picked all of the 6 year olds name, and she kind of picked the first name for the 5 year old but I got to pick her middle name).
