Gastroschisis

Caitlyn

Today was our 3D scan and reveal to find out the gender. 20+6 weeks. We were siked to find out we’re having a boy but after the tech left the room we were found sitting and waiting for her to come back for about 5-10 minutes. At that point I knew something was up. The doctor came back in (my OB sends her patients to another high risk/imaging center for this appt) she explained that she saw gastroschisis. She was extremely kind and thorough explaining what we’re dealing with but after the initial shock I’m finding my own issues dealing with this. My SO has been nothing but helpful and supportive. This is our rainbow baby and this whole pregnancy has been difficult with my fertility issues. To add to the mix we have 2 kids (4-boy and 6-girl) and I’m in the middle of school (undergrad trying to earn a doctorate). My family is 750 miles away but his family is here. Most of my friends are back near my family or away at college. I’m trying to wrap my head around not being able to come home with our son, how I’m going to breastfeed, and let alone how we’re going to afford all this. Yes I have more questions but I’m saving them for the doctor (like if I’ll need another c-section, assuming I will, etc). Has anyone else been through or is going through this? Already sent in a request for Avery’s Angels to be signed up.
