Letting your infant watch tv?

Question

My husband is extremely against any tv for our 10 month old. 
Where as in the morning I like to sit with her and watch a programme that is filled with nursery rhymes and she sits on my lap while I drink my tea. 
She watches for 30 minuets at maximum! 
What do you ladies think?

Health guidelines recommend no screen time before 2. It has no value for infants, they need to learn through all their senses, especially touch is very important for them to develop depth perception. An infant can't really process what they're seeing on the screen. 
After I saw a documentary where they featured a man who lost his sight at 3 years old and then had a cornea transplant and got his sight back later... When he got his vision back he had no depth perception, his brain had pruned away everything that dealt with visual perception . He described how overwhelming everything was, particularly lights and on the drive home he was terrified because he felt like objects he saw at the side of the road were going to hit him. I just imagined how an infant must perceive the world and how overwhelming the bright parade of images on screens must be for them. I always tried to focus my son away from screens . 
Young babies tend to be just as easily entertained with mobiles or the toy bar on a bouncer. If I wanted to sit and relax for a while I used a bouncer or swing.

I think a minimal amount like that is totally fine. I would not recommend using TV as a babysitter but from what you said you’re sitting with baby and also watching so that’s fine.

We follow AAP guidelines and do zero screentime at this age (with the only exception being video calls with family.) I notice my kid now has way more focus than his tv-watching peers, and can entertain himself with his environment much longer than I imagine he would if we'd been giving him passive entertainment opportunities all this time. I'm glad we made the choice we did.

It's fine. Babies like the movement on the TV. Mine does the same thing. 30 minutes a day is good. Mine watches during tummy time because its the only thing that keeps her quiet during it.

My friend’s kid learned Spanish from YouTube videos at 3. 🤷🏽‍♀️ No one she even knows speaks Spanish lol.

Both my kids as babies loved watching the tele. They seemed to like all the different colours.

Definitely nothing wrong with that my son watches tv even has some favorite shows like Sesame Street and curious George and the wiggles I don’t see anything wrong with it and he’s very smart and healthy and sweet little boy nothing bad has happened from a little tv here and there also helps me to take a shower or just relax for a second or cook dinner

There's no such thing as "educational" television for children under the age of 2. The AAP recommends no TV for a reason. Our 16-month-old doesn't watch tv or play with our phones or any of that. Screens are horrible for their eyes and development.

Are TV is on constantly. So if the baby is with us they're "watching tv." Though my kiddo is too young to actually be watching tv. They're looking and playing with us. We're tv ppl did it'll stay that way.
