Eating before workout ?

I juts recently started working out wake up at 4:40 and hit the gym at 5. I keep reading that it’s so important t eat before your workout, that you should eat at least 30 min before your workout but I don’t wanna wake up at 4😆 do I truly need to eat before ?! If I must can’t I juts have a protein shake on my way to gym or a quick snack ?Thank you 😊
