Distracted Eater-- going on a trip
My baby is 5 months old. We are going to be traveling for Thankgiving, just her and I. The flight and travel time will be about 15 hours door to door.
Ever since she was about 3 months old she gets so distracted that she won't nurse. She will only nurse is a pitch black room with no one talking. If she hears a sound or sees light she will thrash around and try to get away from me until she can see the source. I can't even use my phone because it's too distracting for her. She's extremely social.
Once something has caught her attention, she will not come back to the breast, even if she is very hungry. She will cry and scream until I either make it dark or until I prepare a bottle so she can eat facing outward. She goes between breast and bottle no problem.
She also hates the nursing cover. If it touches her in the slightest she waves her arms around like a person who just walked through a spider web.
If we are out of the house a few hours o have to bring bottles with us and pump before and after. If we are gone very long, I'm left in a very uncomfortable position.
What should I do on this trip coming up? I know I will burst if i wait that long to pump. But I also know it will be impossible to pump on the plane because she'll be on my lap!
Any tips would be welcome. I'm not ready to wean but right now that seems like the only answer.
