Has anybody used a pressure baby gate without screwing into the wall?

I have the Munchkin wood and steel safety gate and I really don’t want to screw into the wall if I don’t have to. It’s going on the bottom step of my basement stairs. Thanks everyone :)

I have one blocking the stairs and it’s not screwed in. My twins are 2 though so they have more control

You might be able to get away with it if your baby isn’t mobile but as soon as they are crawling or pulling themselves up on things I wouldn’t trust it
