Why do we stay with these men that are less than we deserve?

That is my honest question! I could sit here and described SO and I know what everyone’s opinion/advice would be... go therapy, communicate, you can do better. 
Why do we stay? I can’t say there is a whole of love? Is it fear? The kids? It could be worse? He’s not abusive? What are your reasons for staying in relationship that you are un-happy in? Sometimes we have fun...

Usually it’s because of a fear of being alone. Women also like to make excuses for men’s behavior and like to see “what they could be” and not how life is right now and that it might never change.

It is a lack of self respect and a shit relationship with yourself usually...

Because we feel we can change them. We feel if we show them love and compassion and put up with their nonsense, that they can see what good women we truly are. We can see that we’re amazing women but we also want our partners to see this. Once we think they will, we start fantasizing about happily ever after but more than often that’s not the case. You can’t change a mans ways. They’re already stuck in them. Sometimes it has to take a life lesson for them to get it. Sometimes they will never see it. It’s up to us to put on our big girl underwear and say “enough is enough.”

I think we all have stayed in a relationship we were unhappy with and I believe it’s because we don’t truly admit to ourselves how unhappy we are. Just like you wrote “sometimes we have fun”, we woman hold onto that “sometimes” way longer than we should. I spent years in a relationship where I questioned myself every day “what if I was happier” but I’d squish that thought down because the fear of the unknown seemed worse than what I was doing. 4 months after I finally left that man I met my (now fiancé) and I can’t believe I ever thought what I’d had with any man before him was love.

Not all the time it’s fear. I believe we stick around because we’re the ones who see their potential and the kind of man they could possibly be after all before we knew he didn’t deserve us he was this “sweet” little thing that we met and got to know. Some men are only nice in the start and so sometimes we form perceptions based on the person we “knew” and thought he “could b e” rather than the person he currently is. Just my personal two cents tho
