Doppler’s - are they worth it?

Thinking of buying a Doppler but  my boyfriend says there a waste of money and says that how do I know I’m not listening to my own heartbeat I really want to get one because I would love to make sure I can check on my baby in between appointments but just wondering is there way to do it where you know for sure it’s the baby’s heartbeat and not actually yours?

You’ll know the difference between yours and baby’s heartbeat. Baby’s will sound very fast like a train or galloping horses. Yours will be slower. I have a Doppler and because I have an anterior placenta it puts my mind at ease when I don’t feel much movement

Personally I wouldn’t buy one now, very soon you’ll be able to feel baby’s every move, and at that point (after 28 weeks) if movement is off you should go in for monitoring regardless of wether you pick up the heartbeat on a doppler. But if it’s in your budget and 28 weeks seems like it’s still a long time for you (I remember my first pregnancy it would have felt like forever), then go ahead. You can definitely tell the baby’s heartbeat apart from yours as it’s much much quicker.

First off, the distinction between baby’s heartbeat, your placenta, and your own is obvious and clear. I’d take your monitor with you when you visit the ob next time and have her show you what they all sound like (or before you buy the monitor doesn’t matter).
Secondly, even if you’ll be able to feel baby kick, or like me have been feeling baby kicking and moving since week 12, you will have moments of sheer terror mixed in there where just knowing you can check for a heartbeat will be enough to calm you. Knowing baby isn’t kicking but hearts still going strong so baby’s asleep is absolutely worth 40$
And lastly, yes forty dollars can be a lot for someone especially when they don’t have it, but its not an absurd amount. When you’re creating a life and you cannot know for sure what’s happening in there, just hearing the heart beat is going to stop you from panicking. And we all know shock and panic are already horrible for our own bodies let alone the pregnant ones. Perhaps he needs to become an ultrasound tech since he’s so well versed in these types of machines lmfao

This is my second pregnancy and both times, I didn't buy one. My advice is to get it. You'll know when you find the heartbeat

I got one off Groupon for maybe $25. I had two miscarriages before this pregnancy so I wanted a way to check on our baby in between appointments. I also have an anterior placenta so I won’t feel him until later. I haven’t used the Doppler much but I’m glad we have it for the days I worry or just wanna check in on him.

I love having one because if I haven’t felt him move that day, it’s reassuring to hear his heart beating and not be worried. Although I’m a very anxious person and terrified of losing him or something going wrong. I spent 70 on mine, started listening to it at 12 weeks and still use it to this day. I say they’re worth it. I am 21 weeks now.

I say no. Most times when you’re early on you’re not gonna be able to find the heartbeat by yourself and just make yourself panic and get more stressed 
I didn’t bother spending the money on one last time or this time. I just don’t see the point in it
