Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) Glucose Test?

I failed my 1hr GD test & attempted to take the 3hr GD test but puked my guts up 45mins in so my Dr is giving me this blood test instead, but why have women suffer through the 3hr glucose test when THIS is an option?! I’m confused..I guess it tests your glucose levels for the past 3 months & she said there’s no reason for me to fast, why isn’t this an option from the get go?! Anyone else have this test done? How much blood do they take?

its not really inaccurate way to you with GD because if you eat right it will show up that you don't have it but that does not mean you don't. I have GD right niw and if i had taken it i would pass because I eat right. my numbers dont spike so it wont show up on the test.

I had this test done! I asked for alternatives to the glucose test and she said this was fine. They drew one small vial 🤷 I think the difference is that the glucose test tests how well your body handles an influx of glucose versus what your levels have been at.

i’m not sure why that is even an option tbh , i have gestational diabetes and had to do that and my levels were 5.5 which is really good . so i don’t think it tests for gestational diabetes, but more so regular . because my levels with gestational diabetes are all over the place and i’m on meds.
