Should people be allowed to wear masks when protesting?

I was just watching the news and they were showing clips of protesters and I always feel like I notice how many people wear masks or face covers to essentially hide their identity. Personally I find a person in a mask very intimidating and my gut tells me they are up to no good... maybe I am profiling, but unless you are in cold weather conditions, what do you need a ski mask for if you believe in what you have to say and plan to be peaceful?

This just came to mind because my child’s school (K-8th grade) banned masks for Halloween for safety reasons. It makes sense that a school would want to identify everyone on campus, so I support the rule. I GET that you can’t really tell people in public what to wear, but maybe showing your identity should be the price of admission to an organized peaceful protest. What do you think?
