First time pregnant, when do you make an appointment with your doctor?

I’ve read a lot of things online and somewhere I read that most people don’t make their first doctors appointment until about 8 weeks because that is the time they are able to see things in the uterus. I’m soo clueless on where to begin. Do I go to my primary doctor first or obgyn? Please help and give advice.

Make an app with your obgyn now, they will probably schedule you for between weeks 8 and 9 based on your last menstral period but they can be really busy so the soon you make the app the better!

Make one right away. My OBs like to see you no earlier than 8 weeks unless there’s an issue. I’ve made all my first appointments soon after I found out.

At my office, you can have an appt as soon as you please to “confirm” pregnancy. So I went in at 4 weeks or so - peed in a cup, got told congrats, talked to the midwife for a few then left. 
The next apt is around 8-9 weeks - I’m getting a dating ultrasound this Tuesday and my first prenatal in the 13th.

I scheduled my appt 2 days after my first positive test. I was about 6 weeks when I went. I had to find a new doctor because my old OB that I’ve been with for 10+ years had recently stopped delivery babies 🙄 but all they did at my first appt was a blood test to confirm my pregnancy and take my height and weight and I came with some questions that I had and we talked.

You can call right away if you want, I personally waited until period was officially late (found out early with 1st and current pregnancy which is #3) Each office has certain preferences as to when they want to see you so it doesn’t matter when you call, they usually go by LMP at the beginning and schedule you according to their policies

funny story for me was that after I took the test in May, I called the OB right away and was like I think im pregnant 🤦🏽‍♀️ the test read positive but you know I wanted to be sure lol so the receptionist set me for an appointment the following month and of course it was true, saw my little baby at 8 weeks 💙😆

Call your OB and let them know you took a home pregnancy test and it was positive. The nurse will go over some basic things with you like your last period and when you had your last pelvic exam. They will schedule your first ultrasound usually between 8-12 weeks but they will likely ask you to get a blood panel and a urine test (to test for uti) before then. My doc said any time before my first ultrasound was fine. 
They will probably also want to do a history with you and a pelvic exam so you might have an appointment before your first ultrasound (it depends on your doctor)

As soon as I had a positive pregnancy test I called an OB office. It was right before the 4th, so it took a couple weeks for me to get in. I was 12 weeks at my first appointment. They did an ultrasound as I wasn't 100% sure of how far along I was.
