Stocking up on stuff...

I keep noticing in nursery photos how most people have lots of nappy packs, lotions, baby wipes etc. Do we need to stock up on all these things, i thought i’ll just have 1 of each and keep buying as I run out.. if I get a pack with 98 size 1 nappies and then buy another one when I’m half way through the first pack is bad? I have a very small nursery and i really don’t want it to be crowded with 50 packs of Pampers... am I crazy? Are these things you got at your baby shower?

I live in UK and so far nobody I know had a baby shower, maybe some people do but they are definitely not as big as in US, so getting all this stuff as gifts is not going to happen.
