Natural birth in 12 minutes!

Liz

Just wanted to share my crazy fast birthing experience. My November girl was born 11/5, due 11/12 (exactly 1 week early). I went to my 39 week OB check as normal that afternoon and told my

doc that I had been experiencing minor contractions all day, but nothing serious nor were they coming regularly. However when she checked me she laughed and said I was 6cm and fully effaced and said I should be in active labor then and there on her table. She advised I go the hospital if I start to feel an increase in labor pains at all. That evening I started to feel my contractions more frequently and they started to hurt a little worse. We decided to go to the hospital. I was admitted and expected a long labor since I had been having contractions all day. I was set up for intermittent monitoring and started to walk the halls. When I got back into bed to be monitored my husband was in the process of blowing up a birthing ball for me (weird that they don’t have ones ready to go), my water suddenly broke on it’s own and HOLY GOD in heaven I was instantly ready to push and my body just completely took over. I had no opportunity to even think about an epi. I hate to scare anyone out of natural child birth, but it was the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. I had no control at all, my body was expelling that baby whether I was ready or not, so I just had to roll with it. After about 5 or 6 pushes and 12 minutes from the time my water broke, my sweet girl Charlotte Maye (baby Charlie according to my 2 year old) was born. She’s perfectly healthy in every way so far and we are smitten. The only saving grace was that my labor was so short, compared to my first experience where I had an epi and labored for over 12 hours. I am so proud that I had a 100% medication free birthing experience but I swear if that had happened with my first I’m not sure I would have had another child!
